Fabio Marra is a writer, director and comedian born in Naples, Italy on June 25 1984.

Biography

Fabio Marra debuted at the Théâtre Bellini in Naples.

He quickly took an interest in writing so he wrote and directed a few short plays that got played in different theatres of the city. In 2005 he left his home country and moved to Paris to train at the International School Jacques Lecoq.

As early as 2006 Fabio started hiw own theatre company Carrozzone Teatro.[1] through which he presents the premieres of all his plays. All of Fabio Marra's plays are listed in the BnF catalogue[2].

Writing and theatre creation

Fabio's first play Teresina[3], was premiered at the Festival d’Avignon in 2008. It toured extensively between 2009 and 2017[4]. with a sit down run at the Théâtre de Poche Montparnasse[5]. Fabio's second play Mon serviteur premiered at the Théâtre de l’Octroi de Versailles[6] in 2009.

In 2010, he created La naïve[7]. The play was presented in Paris during the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 seasons[8], at the Avignon Festical in 2010 and 2011 and with the support of ADAMI, the play was performed at the Théâtre de Poche Montparnasse in 2013[9]

In 2012 he wrote and directed Rappelle-toi[10]. With the support of the SFR foundation for the art, the play premiered at the Festival d’Avignon Off 2012[11], and played again at the Festival the following year[12]. Marra was offered a residency at the Théâtre Le Lucernaire de Paris[13] in 2012.

The city of Versailles decided to coproduce his next play. Dans les chaussures d’un autre[14], which talks about identity[15]

The play was produced at the Théâtre Le Lucernaire during the 2012/2013 season[16] and at La Luna as part of the 2014 Festival d’Avignon Off[17][dead link]. In 2014 Fabio wrote Allegro ma non troppo which he directed[18] at the Scène du Canal with the music by Guappecarto. The same year he co-wrote Prêt-à-partir [19] with Fabio Gorgolini. The play was produced at the Teatro Picaro Company at the Théâtre Buffon.

In 2015, he wrote and directed Ensemble[20], staring Catherine Arditi[21] in the main role. The play unfolds around a theme as universal as it is unknown : normality[22]. Ensemble was created at the Festival d’Avignon 2015[23] at the Théâtre La Luna[24], with the support of the Théâtre le Moulin des Muses of Breuillet and the city of Bièvres[25]. Ensemble transfered at the Théâtre du Petit Montparnasse[26] in January 2017 and was nominated for two Molières[27] in two categories. Fabio Marra was nominated for Best Newcomer and Catherine Arditi won the Best Actress in a commercial theatre production 2017.

Ensemble has been translated an produced in many countries :

United Kingdom, Czech Republic, South Korea, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, Poland, Panama, Argentina, Finland, Bulgaria, Latvia and Turkey.

Fabio's next play Juntos premiered on August 6th 2018 at the Teatro Principal de Vitoria Gasteiz in Spain. The play starred Kiti Mánver, Melani Olivares, Gorka Otxoa and Inès Sánchez. It was directed by Juan Carlos Rubio. The play toured during the 2018/2019 season and was presented at the Teatro Amaya of Madrid during the 2019/2020 season. It recieved 4 nomitations at the "Premios Max de las arted escenicas" : Best show, Best directing, Best Actress and Best Actor. In September 2022 the play premiered at the Theatre du Centaure, Luxembourg directed by Marja-Leena Junker.

Juntos is published by the Ediciones Antigona of Madrid.

It has been adapted as a film entilted Spolu by Nostress production, Prague.

In 2016 Fabio Marra wrote A tes souhaits, a play dedicated to a younger audience. The play was created by the Mélodrames Company, directed by Gustavo de Araujo at the Théâtre Le Funambule at Montmartre.

He wrote Un pas après l'autre[28] in 2020. He directed the play at the Espace Michel Simon of Noisy-le-Grand. The play was presented at La Scala Provence during the Festival d'Avignon 2022[29].

In 2023 he wrote and directed La couleur des souvenirs[30] starring Dominique Pinon, Catherine Arditi, Sonia Palau, Floriane Vincent, Aurélien Chaussade and Fabio Marra. The play was created at the Théâtre des Halles of Avignon, co produced by the Comédie de Picardie of Amiens[31].

In 2024 Fabio directed Des pivoines du Japon, a play written by Emmanuel Robert-Espalieu starring Marion Christmann and Gaël Cottat. The play is produced by La Scala Theatre and played at the Festival d'Avignon Off 2024 at the same theatre[32].

He is an associated artist at the Federation of Social Centers of Seine-Saint-Denis, who accompanied him on an adventure that culminated in 2012 with the staging of the Festival Transit 2013 and 2014[33]. He is also a Member of the SACD, the National Union of Directors and of the Autores y Autoras de Teatro company in Spain.

Fabio Marra is represented in the UK by Sissi Liechtenstein[34] at International Performing Rights.[35]
