• (Veere) First attested as alerdeskirkam, alerdeskirke and alerdeskyrken between the end of the 12th century and 1207. Compound of a contracted version of des heer (“of the lord”), Old Dutch Alard (a personal name) and kerk (“church”). See also Zealandic Stroôskerke.
