From Proto-Turkic *botka (porridge). Cognate with Bashkir бутҡа (butqa), Kyrgyz ботко (botko), Southern Altai ботко (botko), Khakas потхы (potxı), Uzbek bo'tqа, Uyghur بوتقا (botqa, porridge, cereal dish), etc.
