Amendment history
editTitle 17 was added by the Act of July 30, 1947 (61 Stat. 652) which codified the Copyright Act of 1909 (Mar. 4, 1909, 35 Stat. 1075). It was completely amended by the Copyright Act of 1976 (Pub.L. 94−553, Oct. 19, 1976, 90 Stat. 2541), which added chapters 1 to 7 with effect from January 1, 1978, and chapter 8 with effect from October 19, 1976. Version as existing before the enactment of the Copyright Act 1976
- Chapter 8 was replaced in its entirety by the Copyright Royalty Tribunal Reform Act of 1993 (Pub.L. 103−198, Dec. 17, 1993, 107 Stat. 2304), and again by the Copyright Royalty and Distribution Reform Act of 2004 (Pub.L. 108−419, Nov. 30, 2004, 118 Stat. 2341), with effect from May 30, 2005.
- Chapter 9 was added by the Semiconductor Chip Protection Act of 1984 (Pub.L. 98−620, Nov. 8, 1984, 98 Stat. 3335) with effect as provided in section 913.
- Chapter 10 was added by the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992 (Pub.L. 102−563, Oct. 28, 1992, 106 Stat. 4237).
- Chapter 11 was added by the Uruguay Round Agreements Act (Pub.L. 103−465, Dec. 8, 1994, 108 Stat. 4809), with effect from January 1, 1995.
- Chapter 12 was added by the WIPO Copyright and Performances and Phonograms Treaties Implementation Act of 1998 (Pub.L. 105−304, Oct. 28, 1998, 112 Stat. 2860), with effect from October 28, 1998.
- Chapter 13 was added by the Vessel Hull Design Protection Act (Pub.L. 105−304, Oct. 28, 1998, 112 Stat. 2860), with effect from October 28, 1998.
