However, these geochemical methods cannot distinguish which organisms are responsible for primary production. Corals visually dominate the landscape on pristine reefs, but primary producers on coral reefs are diverse and include corals (through their symbiotic algae), fleshy algae, turf algae, and gorgonians. Here we describe a “bottom-up” approach to estimate the contribution of different types of primary producers to total primary production on coral reefs based on scaling up taxon-specific rates of production by the abundance of those taxa in the environments. First, photographic 3D mapping was employed to build high resolution 3D images of the benthic ecosystem. The boundary element approximation of the parabolic variational inequalities of the second kind i... more The boundary element approximation of the parabolic variational inequalities of the second kind is discussed. First, the parabolic variational inequalities of the second kind can be reduced to an elliptic variational inequality by using semidiscretization and implicit method in time; then the existence and uniqueness for the solution of nonlinear non-differentiable mixed variational inequality is discussed. Its corresponding mixed boundary variational inequality and the existence and uniqueness of its solution are yielded. This provides the theoretical basis for using boundary element method to solve the mixed variational inequality.

Implementation of urgent cancer care clinics could decrease rates of hospitalization, but the reasons for acute visits must be better understood. This retrospective cohort study investigates emergency department (ED) visits or admissions in patients treated with definitive RT. Under an IRB-approved protocol, the cohort was defined as all consecutive patients >=18 yo who began RT (RTSTART) between 7/1/11 and 12/31/13 for nonmetastatic disease with curative intent. An acute encounter was defined as an ED visit or inpatient admission during RT or 30 days after the conclusion of RT (30DA). A total of 1852 unique RT courses from 1823 patients were identified, within which there were 666 RT unique courses (657 patients) who had at least one acute encounter. This chapter examines the legal regime governing the management of fisheries in Community waters,... more This chapter examines the legal regime governing the management of fisheries in Community waters, i.e., those waters under the sovereignty or jurisdiction of EC Member States. An initial issue is the question of how far the competence to adopt management measures for Community waters falls within the competence of the EC, and how far within the competence of Member States. It considers in turn total allowable catches (TACs) and quotas, effort management, technical measures, Member States' delegated powers, access to fishing grounds, the nationality of fishing vessels, enforcement, and capacity adjustment. It also discusses fishing by Third State vessels in Community waters, and the reform of the EC system of fisheries management.
