Accessing the Help System

To access the Maple help system:

•

From the Help menu, select Maple Help.

The Maple help system opens in a separate window. The window has two panes. The left pane contains the Help Navigator where you initiate searches or browse the table of contents, and the right pane displays help pages.

Using the Help Navigator

Use the search field in the Help Navigator to find information on Maple commands and features.

•

Search for a known help topic, a command name, or a keyword or phrase.

•

If you have any add-on products, you can restrict the search to Maple, MapleSim, or any combination of those products and their add-ons.

•

You can search all resources or limit the search to specific Page Types such as assistants, help pages, manuals, or Math Apps.

•

Search results are displayed as a list in the Search Results tab of the left pane. The associated topic is displayed in the right pane.  Some tutorials open in a Maple window instead of in the Help window.

•

You can also select the Table of Contents tab to view a structured list of all topics in the help system. For details, see Table of Contents.

Resource Icons

In the left pane, the type of resource is indicated by an icon.

Question mark indicates a help page.

WS indicates an example worksheet or tutorial. These worksheets open in a Maple window.

 T indicates a task template.

D indicates a Math Dictionary term.

Viewing Help Pages as Worksheets

The Maple Help System allows you to open help pages as worksheets.

After the examples are in a worksheet, you can modify or execute examples, as well as interact with any embedded components, such as sliders.

•

With the help page displayed in the right pane of the help system, from the View menu, select Open Page as Worksheet. A new worksheet window opens.

•

Alternately, click Open current page as worksheet ( ) in the help system toolbar.

If you do not want to open the entire page as a worksheet, you can copy only the examples to a new worksheet. For details, see Copy Examples.

2-D vs 1-D Math in Examples

You can choose to view the help page examples in either 1-D Maple Input or 2-D Math Input. This applies to the Examples section of all help pages. By default, examples are displayed in 2-D math.

To switch between 2-D and 1-D math examples:

•

In the help system, go to the View menu. If Display Examples with 2D math input is selected, then examples will display in 2-D math; otherwise examples display in 1-D.

•

Alternately, click on the 1-D/2-D Math   button on the help system toolbar.

If the icon is highlighted, then examples will display in 2-D math. Otherwise, examples display in 1-D math.
