In the era of digital healthcare, biomedical data sharing is of paramount importance for the adva... more In the era of digital healthcare, biomedical data sharing is of paramount importance for the advancement of research and personalised healthcare. However, sharing such data while preserving user privacy and ensuring data security poses significant challenges. This paper introduces BioChainReward (BCR), a blockchain-based framework designed to address these concerns. BCR offers enhanced security, privacy, and incentivisation for data sharing in biomedical applications. Its architecture consists of four distinct layers: data, blockchain, smart contract, and application. The data layer handles the encryption and decryption of data, while the blockchain layer manages data hashing and retrieval. The smart contract layer includes an AI-enabled privacy-preservation sublayer that dynamically selects an appropriate privacy technique, tailored to the nature and purpose of each data request. This study explores the use of the Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tool ChatGPT in hig... more This study explores the use of the Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tool ChatGPT in higher education. Amidst the potential benefits and the risk of misuse, this research investigates the tool's role as a classroom aid and its impact on learning outcomes and experiences. Three case studies involving undergraduate and postgraduate ICT students were conducted. Findings revealed a positive perception of ChatGPT as a useful and enjoyable learning resource. Most students indicated a willingness to use such AI tools in the future. Additionally, the study suggested improved performance in functionality, user flow, and content comprehension among students using ChatGPT, compared to those relying solely on traditional search engines.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a paradigm that facilitates autonomous communications among vario... more The Internet of Things (IoT) is a paradigm that facilitates autonomous communications among various IoT devices with minimal human intervention. This raises many security challenges, which are critical and must be addressed to allow for the wide deployment of IoT. Trust must be provisioned among the various heterogeneous IoT devices. In this paper, a distributed trust management model is proposed. The model offers solutions to trust management and negotiations in the IoT. It is inspired by clustering techniques that are adopted in WSNs. After introducing the structural design and the main components of the trust model, we demonstrate how our new approach supports trust negotiations and management in the IoT.

This Chapter provides several comparable studies of some of the major evolving and enabling wirel... more This Chapter provides several comparable studies of some of the major evolving and enabling wireless technologies in the Internet of Things (IoT). Particularly, it focuses on the ZigBee, 6lowpan, Bluetooth Low Energy, LTE, and the different versions of Wi-Fi protocols including the IEEE 802.11ah. The studies, reported in this chapter, evaluate the capabilities and behaviors of these technologies in terms of various metrics including the data range and rate, network size, RF Channels and Bandwidth, Antenna design considerations, Power Consumption, and their Ecosystem. It is concluded that the requirements of each IoT application play a significant role in the selection of a suitable wireless technology.

The Internet of Things (IoT) offers many interesting solutions to problems encountered in a range... more The Internet of Things (IoT) offers many interesting solutions to problems encountered in a range of application areas. The potentially huge number and the diversity of things that may be part of such an infrastructure can pose prominent issues for their systemic management. This paper explores such issues and proposes a management platform that partially addresses them. More specifically, our proposed IoT Management Platform (IoT-MP) takes into account the fact that things, in general, have limited power, computation, and communication resources available to them. The proposed platform supports fundamental management functions, including those needed for proper operation, monitoring and communications. After introducing the architecture and the major components of the platform, we show the advantages of our proposed approach through some simulation studies.

ABSTRACT Although some people might willingly reveal their location information in order to obtai... more ABSTRACT Although some people might willingly reveal their location information in order to obtain location-based services, few would be comfortable having their locations collected and profiled by the billions of things envisioned in the Internet of Things (IoT), at all time and in all situations. The diffusion of wireless communication networks and the technical advancements of location positioning techniques, power things of the IoT with the capabilities of automatically sensing, communicating, and processing the information about a person's location, with a high degree of spatial and temporal precision. In this work, we address the location privacy issue by introducing the Semantic Obfuscation technique (S-Obfuscation). This technique, compared to classical geometric-based obfuscation techniques, relies on geographic knowledge to produce obfuscated locations that are harder to be detected as fake or obfuscated by an adversary. The obfuscation process is supported by our novel use of ontological classification of locations based on a geographical knowledge.
