OVHcloud, a sustainable cloud provider pioneer, announces the approval of its decarbonization objectives in line with Paris Agreement
Roubaix, 19 November 2024 - OVHcloud, a global cloud player and the European Cloud leader, has announced the approval of its greenhouse gas reduction targets and the recognition of its ambitions and roadmap by various organizations. As a pioneer in sustainable cloud, the Group leverages its valued expertise to offer a trusted cloud in data centers benefiting from some of the best performance scores in the industry.
The global collaborative organization SBTi (Science-Based Targets initiative) has approved OVHcloud's short-term (2030) greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets for scopes 1, 2, and 3, which are considered in line with the provisions framed in the Paris Agreement, aiming to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees. The objective is to help reduce OVHcloud's carbon footprint and support global efforts to combat climate change.
One of the most ambitious decarbonization initiatives in the cloud sector
Through this comprehensive and voluntary approach, OVH Groupe commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 73.4% in absolute value by fiscal year 2030 and to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions 52% in economic intensity[1] within the same timeframe. These reduction percentages have been calculated for the reference year 2022. With this roadmap, OVHcloud is one of the first global cloud players to commit to such an ambitious decarbonization program, in line with 1.5°C trajectory. All information linked to these targets and data are now available online on the SBTi website.
Recognized by several sustainable development organizations
In this context, in line with the values of OVHcloud, founded 25 years ago, the Group is constantly and increasingly involved in reducing its environmental impact and moving towards ever more responsible practices, as it has been recognized by :
- OVHcloud has been ranked No. 1 in the category of public cloud service providers operating in France by the French consultancy AdVaes (Baromètre des Prestataires du Numérique Écoresponsables). The Group made further progresses this year, with the highest score on items such as greenhouse gas emissions reduction, energy, water, waste, and recycling, and an excellent score for internal IT and digital.
- The world-renowned EcoVadis rating organization, in which OVHcloud is ranked among the 29% most responsible companies, thus retaining its bronze medal while improving its score, despite the tougher rating context.
"Environmental responsibility is deeply rooted in our DNA, and has been since the foundation of OVHcloud. The recognition of our efforts in the field of sustainable development by various agencies, including SBTi, strengthens our commitment and resolution to meet these ambitious objectives and to involve our customers and partners with us in this responsible approach," says Benjamin Revcolevschi, CEO of OVHcloud.
OVHcloud's environmental efforts go beyond reducing its emissions. The company is helping its customers to take action on their impact, thanks in particular to its transparent and comprehensive carbon calculator, which is already available for the Bare Metal and Hosted Private Cloud ecosystems. It will be made available for the Public Cloud[2] and Web Hosting universes in the first half of 2025.
