Where can veterans in the greater Pittsburgh area go to enjoy free food, games and entertainment while learning about their VA benefits? VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System's Boardwalk in the 'Burgh! Veterans, their families and significant others are invited to the H.J. Heinz III campus in O'Hara Township for the event on Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All veterans are welcome, whether or not enrolled in VA health care. The event features: Free hot dogs, chips and cold beverages Cornhole with friends Face painting for kids Dunk tank featuring VA staff Live entertainment with Navy veteran Richard "Doc" Mondak of Rust Bucket Fresh produce for purchase Information on VA benefits Opportunity to check eligibility for VA health care -- bring your DD214 The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting on the new Center for Whole Health and Wellness. Women veterans are encouraged to stop by the Learning Exchange in building 71 at 1 p.m. for a presentation and Q&A session on womens VA health care benefits. In addition, Veterans with a service-connected disability who were separated from the military under other than honorable conditions through either an administrative discharge or by special court martial can meet with a VBA representative to check their eligibility for VA benefits and health care under a recent rule change. The Heinz campus is located near Aspinwall at 1010 Delafield Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

School breakfast and lunch will be free to all Carlynton students when classes begin Aug. 21. The district will participate in the National School Lunch Program's Community Eligibility Provision this school year, said Ryan Racicot, Carlynton's food service director. Live! Casino today announced the totals for this year's second round of GiveBack Boxes for local charities. Thanks to the generosity of casino guests, Live! raised $6,116.83 for Educated Athletes First and $7,192.75 for the Westmoreland County Parks & Recreation Citizen Advisory Board. Sean Sullivan, general manager of Live! Casino Pittsburgh, and Jon Campbell, director of sales and catering, presented checks to representatives from the two charities. Dorsey Cox, CEO, accepted the check on behalf of Educate Athletes First. Accepting on behalf of Westmoreland County Parks & Recreations Citizen Advisory Board were board chair Theresa Gay Rohall and parks coordinator Christian Panichella. "We are happy to be able to give back to our community and support local partners who do such meaningful work," said Sullivan. "We look forward to investing in more local partnerships in the future as a way to build stronger connections for a stronger community." The third quarter charities for the GiveBack Box program are the Best of the Batch Foundation and Shop With a Cop of Westmoreland County. The Best of the Batch Foundation offers programs for children over eight western Pennsylvania counties. The Shop With a Cop program gives children who were a victim of a crime or unfortunate circumstance the opportunity to go holiday shopping with a police officer from their area.
