L'Istituto Tecnico Statale "Buonarroti" nacque nel 1963 come Istituto Tecnico per Geometri "Buonarroti" per gemmazione dall'Istituto Tecnico Commerciale e per Geometri "Terra di Lavoro" (sorto nel 1914). I beni originari del "Buonarroti" furono ceduti dal "Terra di Lavoro".
