Andrew Chilberg (1845-1934) was born in Sweden, but he and his family moved to the United States the year after his birth. He grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa, but resettled in Washington in 1871. He owned a grocery business with his brothers in Seattle beginning in 1875. He sold his share of the store in 1882. In 1879 he was appointed to the position of vice consul for Sweden and Norway by the Swedish government. In 1892 he accepted the presidency of the Swedish-American Bank. He was married to Miss Mary Nelson with whom he had one child.
