--Diligent 11:08, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merci pour ta version. J'espere qu'elle va etre promue ! Diligent

Proposal: Picture of the Year and Picture of the Month contests

I have posted a new proposal on Commons talk:Featured picture candidates regarding the creation of FP-related contests and would like your feedback on the idea. This message is being sent to some of the regular contributors to Commons:Featured picture candidates. Alvesgaspar 16:13, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

POTY election implementation

Some help in needed to organize the POTY election. Please check the conclusions of the discussion in Commons talk:Featured picture candidates. What do you think of doing the election in the period 15-31 January? - Alvesgaspar 14:47, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If it's gonna be between 15 and 31 January I'll vote for it, and most probably usual FP users are gonna vote too. That means quality votes. But if you want a broader audience and more non-FP-regular-users voting, some more publicity is needed, so February could be a good time to vote. Would it be possible to announce this on EN (FR and others) main pages on a particular day? This is good publicity. --Andy 22:18, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it seems that the period 15-31 January is not realistic. And I also agree we should involve as many people as possible both in the preparation and the election. After all this is supposed to be a big event and to draw the attention of new high quality participants. One of the items I put in the "list of things to do" is the announcements. Could you please go there and make your proposal so the other users may comment? - Salut, Alvesgaspar 00:04, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your photos

Hello Andy. You make very good pictures, but i have seen that the picture of notre dam looks a bit unsharp to me. Did you anyting with the photo to blur it or was the focus not right when you done this pic? Is there something with the lens? Please check this. Try several photos of houses more than 50 metres away with slightly different focuspoints. Not everytime the marking unlimited is the real unlimited focus point. QI discussion

There is an important discussion going on here which might result in a snowball with unwanted results. Although I agree that the actual QI guidelines should be tuned up, I can't support a considerable degrading of the existing criteria, towards some "poor man's QI" model. - Alvesgaspar 14:52, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FP bison

Hi,

I removed your vote and comment on the featured picture voting page because of the following reasons:

  • The reason for opposing the picture was too low resolution < 1 megapixel; this was due to an incorrect upload; the actual image now onsite being about 4 megapixel.
  • You then hinted that I did not understand the licensing conditions because I put a copyright sign under the picture. This is actually perfectly normal. If you know about free software, you will note that software from the Free Software Foundation (the ones who wrote the GFDL) is actually copyrighted by the Free Software Foundation, and they have copyright notices. The reason is that to be able to enforce the license, one has to be the copyright holder; if there was no copyright, the image would be in the public domain and there would be no need to have licensing conditions! You may also note that I'm one of the persons who wrote Commons' licensing guidelines...

Feel free to reject my picture now, but at least for other reasons! David.Monniaux 19:28, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion warning Image:Pyramide du Louvre et Tour Eiffel.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

In the permission section for this photo you've written "share with attribution only for non commercial-use", which sounds like a non-commercial license. But below that you've tagged it simply {{Cc-by-2.5}}, which does allow commercial use. As non-commercial licenses aren't allowed on Commons (see Commons:Licensing), I would suggest that you update the image to clarify this. --Davepape 01:53, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great - thanks for the fix. I'm afraid the Louvre pyramid photo is probably still against policy, but I've left that for others to hash out. --Davepape 01:21, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You might like to revisit this one - the user has provided a credible explanation for the apparent manipulation, and would be good to know if you want to change your vote, or leave it as is anyway. Regards, Ben Aveling 12:28, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pentax Press Release images

Hey, concerning the two images that were quickly deleted yesterday: press release images are supposed to be public, aren't they ? I don't know where you found the "(C)2008 PENTAX Corporation All Rights Reserved", it is surely not on the pentax press release website (http://www.pentaxtech.com/Press/pressfiles.html). As a matter of fact those images weren't even published in 2008. I downloaded them at the end of 2006 when the camera just got out of the market.

I just wrongly uploaded an image with the "(c) Pentax" mark on it, which was from a subsidiary website of the corporation. The final two versions are, though, official press release images which are all-over the web. They are certainly not copyrighted !

--Atoma 09:54, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The copyright is from the site, and I've followed the rule "When there's no permission, the image is copyrighted"... I suggest you to ask in Commons talk:Licensing - I'm not the only admin, and I might be wrong... Yuval Y § Chat § 15:57, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
