Caitlyn Brandt
I recently received my M.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder. I am originally from South Florida where I fostered my interest in the intersections of religion and law. I completed my undergraduate career at Appalachian State '14. There, I received a B.A. in Anthropology and Religious Studies. My thesis topics included Reappropriation in Boarding Schools as a Tool of Decolonization as well as Maternal Colonialism: A Feminist Critique of Religious Movements Led by European Women and Their Role in Indian Child Removal Policy. My current research interests focus on the intersections of federal Indian law, American Indian religious traditions, and decolonization movements. With the rise of Indigenous decolonization movements and speaking out against the desecration of sacred lands, sacred waters, and sacred objects, my work has shifted to think about how ritual acts and religious identity should be considered as acts of refusal.
