One of the basic individual rights is a healthy life and decent living conditions, but the SAARC countries are lagging behind in this respect. The goal of this study is to evaluate the effect of foreign direct investment inflows on population health by integrating growth, foreign aid, and human capital into the model for selected SAARC countries. Design/Methodology/Approach:The fixed effect technique based on the Hausman test was implemented through the period of 1996-2018 because of the Panel nature of the data. Findings:Our empirical results indicate that FDI inflows have a positive and significant effect on population health. Increase in FDI inflows in the host country raises the income of the people, as better job opportunities are available to them. Implications/Originality/Value:This research is a crucial step in observing the compli...

The bargaining process produces household decisions which usually consist of unequal bargaining power. This study investigating the socio-economic factors through which female education and income change their bargaining power at the household. Design/Methodology/Approach:For this purpose, a primary survey through a questionnaire has administered in different areas of Punjab, Pakistan. We have collected the data 200 working married women OLS ordinary least square model has been applied to estimate our results. Findings:The result of the study shows that the socio-economic factors has significant and positive role in determining the women bargaining power within and outside the household. Higher income and education not only enhance their bargaining power in decision-making within and outside the household but also incr...

Design/methodology/approach For time series analysis, Phillips and Perron (PP) and Augmented Dickey–Fuller (ADF) unit root tests are used to confirm the level of integration. For robustness, Kim and Perron (2009)’s structural break unit root test is employed, which identifies the order of integration in the presence of structural break years. Further, combined cointegration analysis is performed to confirm the existence of a long-run association between underlying variables. Furthermore, autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) analysis is employed for the robustness of the cointegration approach. Findings The cointegration analysis confirms the existence of a long-run association among variables. The authors find a positive and significant impact of urbanization,...

Fixed effect and random effect (FEM) have been employed to compare the both data sets of countries and then based upon results, policies have been formulated which could accelerate inclusive growth in LDCs. Results suggest that growth acceleration and institutions alone doesn’t have a significant impact on inclusive growth. On the other hand, if growth acceleration occurs in the presence of institutions, it leads to inclusive growth in MDCs& LDCs. Except for health quality, no independent variable has significant impact on inclusive growth in LDCs. Whereas, nearly all independent variables showed significant impact on inclusive growth in MDCs. Unlike MDCs, inclusive growth remains impervious in LDCs, particularly owing to the poor quality of education. Weak institutional structure further adds to the miseries of LDCs. The study suggests that LD...

Low quality of institutions and less attention towards the development of human capital are two major reasons for this failure. This study explores the association of institutional quality and human capital on economic growth in Pakistan from the time period between years 1984 to 2018. For the estimation of our model, Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model has been used. The variance decomposition analysis is also used to check the shocks, direction, and magnitude of the shocks within the selected variables. Impulse response function confirms that the magnitude and direction of the shocks are positive. The outcome of this research suggests that accumulation in human capital increases productivity, and institutional quality helps to sustain economic growth. Therefore, policy makers should design such policies, whi...

Three reasons have been mentioned in the literature for this difference; geographical differences, role of international trade and the quality of institutions. This study examines the short run and long run impacts of trade openness, and quality of institutions, on the growth of industrial sector of Pakistan, using time series data over the period of 1984-2013.TheCobb- Douglas production function has been augmented by adding quality of institutions, trade openness, and financial development variables to probe their impacts on the industrial growth. The most recently developed combined cointegration technique by Bayer and Hanck (2013) has been usedto check the cointegration among the variables. Long run empirical results show that trade openness, and quality of institutions positively contributes to the growth of industrial sector. These resul...
