The most effective of these solutions has been the use of multiple cemented casing strings. it has been found that dual cemented-casing strings have a collapse resistance superior to the sum of the collapse resistances of the casing strings composing this system. But these results do not include the affect of the internal pressure. This paper discusses the influence of a high internal pressure (alone, or combined with external pressure) and the cement properties on the collapse resistance of cemented concentric strings. The resistance of the system depends on the quality of the cement. A low quality cement will continue to creep after setting and will not contribute much to the system under combined pressure loads. During drilling oil, gas, or geothermal wells, the temperature difference between the formation a... more During drilling oil, gas, or geothermal wells, the temperature difference between the formation and the drilling fluid will cause a temperature change around the borehole, which will influence the wellbore stresses. This effect on the stresses tends to cause wellbore instability in high temperature formations, which may lead to some problems such as formation break down, loss of circulation, and untrue kick. In this research, a numerical model is presented to simulate downhole temperature changes during circulation then simulate its effect on fracture pressure gradient based on thermo-poro-elasticity theory. This paper also describes an incident occurred during drilling a well in Gulf of Suez and the observations made during this incident. It also gives an analysis of these observations which led to a reasonable explanation of the cause of this incident. The program calculates the build-up angle, the measured depth, the true vertical depth of each interval, the total measured depth of the well, the end of build, and the drop-off point. The input data are the final hold true vertical depth, the final hold horizontal displacement, the build-up rate, the drop-off rate, and the final hold angle. The paper describes the equations, lists the code, and gives an example of program output.

Constant bottom hole pressure (CBHP) is one of the techniques used for implementing managed press... more Constant bottom hole pressure (CBHP) is one of the techniques used for implementing managed pressure drilling (MPD) mode. It has been introduced to the industry since few years. It aims to provide safe drilling operations, decrease excessive mud costs by reducing lost circulation and preventing well kicks, decrease rig costs by reducing drilling problems including stuck pipe, and non-productive time (NPT). It used especially in drilling wells with a narrow mud window between pore pressure and fracture pressure gradients where selection of the mud properties and drilling techniques in such narrow windows are considered a high challenge. Its application used to reduce the effect of circulating friction loss or equivalent circulating density (ECD) by controlling the annular frictional pressure losses or using continuous circulating system. An additional circulating friction to hydrostatic head can result in formation fracture in drilling or circulation operations, also when stopping circulation the hydrostatic pressure could lies below the formation pore pressure. CBHP could be achieved using the following techniques: 1) Application of Backpressure (ABP), and 2) Continuous Circulation. This paper is devoted to show the tools used to achieve continuous circulation and the candidates of implementing such technique. The paper provides a case study that illustrates how continues circulation used to enhance the casing design and the mud program. It also illustrates the economic benefits using a cost analysis of the phases that used ENI's circulating device (E-CDā¢ system) by comparing between conventional drilling techniques and Constant bottom hole pressure -continuous circulation- applications in wells drilled in TEMSAH Field.

This research provides a tool that represents this complex physical phenomenon using artificial neural networks (ANN) to predict the rate of penetration (ROP) to optimize bit selection. Lithology changes, drilling parameters data, and bit data were the inputs of our model. Field datasets were collected from six different wells in the Nile Delta area represented by more than 12,000 records; these records were subjected to statistical analysis to exclude the data outliers and bad quality records. The cleansed datasets (more than 7,000 records) were normalized as a preprocessing step prior to building the ANN model. Many exploratory models were developed prior to building the final model.
