I know many of you lead busy lives and may not have been able to keep up with some of the things that have been happening in our country, so please find below a collection of relevant news items from the past week.
My thanks again to Sue Pugmire for doing the heavy lifting in curating this week’s collection.
The stand out issues for me this week have been:
1. The continued chaos in our Health system with nurses not being able to find frontline jobs, midwives going to court over their pay and the government being embarrassed into providing Keytruda medication to desperate cancer patients.
2. Alarming talk of privatising Kiwibank.
3. Housing - the government looking to axe 1576 social housing homes already consented.
4. Education Minister and former Reality TV producer Erica Sanford wanting to introduce “structured maths” – something that does not exist.
5. The Brain Drain reaching record numbers as thousands of our brightest and best head overseas, attracted by better jobs and living conditions.
6. The disturbing ongoing racial prejudice exhibited by our right wing government – the latest petty thing being Minister Goldsmith’s edict to delete all te reo from official correspondence.
7. The ongoing Ferry debacle that could cost a billion dollars with nothing to show for it.
