Choosing the right BREEAM USA standard for your project
BREEAM USA In-use
BREEAM USA In-use is a comprehensive and holistic environmental assessment method for existing commercial, industrial and residential assets located within the United States.
It provides a framework to help owners, managers and occupiers of existing assets to adopt sustainable, cost-effective solutions. This standard is open to nearly all existing commercial and residential buildings of any size, age and performance level.
BREEAM New construction
The BREEAM New construction standard is used to assess the design, construction, intended use and future-proofing of new building developments. The criteria include the local, natural or human-created environment surrounding the building.
BREEAM International New Construction, the standard used for new developments in the US, provides a framework to encourage clients and designers to strive for the most sustainable building within the constraints of the project. Certificates can be issued at the design stage (noted as interim BREEAM rating based on the design) or post-construction to confirm the final BREEAM rating.
BREEAM USA Refurbishment and fit out
The BREEAM Refurbishment and fit out (RFO) standards are used to assess the design, construction, and future-proofing of major renovation and tenant improvement projects. The criteria focus on four key elements from concept stage to completion: building envelope, core services, local services and interior design.
Renovations and tenant improvement projects in the United States use BREEAM International Refurbishment and Fit Out (RFO). Each assessment requires evidence to support the design and construction decisions agreed upon during the project’s development and ensures they have been fully implemented. Certificates can be issued at the design stage (noted as interim BREEAM rating based on the design) or post-construction to confirm the final BREEAM rating.
