My family and I had the amazing experience of living as American expats in Yokohama, Japan, in the early-2000s. It feels like a lifetime ago now.

Yokohama is the second-largest city in Japan in terms of population and area. This cosmopolitan port city stands out from the rest of Japan, which some might describe as a concrete jungle. We were embraced by gorgeous green spaces in this beautiful city.

Yokohama is well-known for its ecological charm. Native flowers like Bigleaf hydrangea, Chameleon plant, and Rose evening primrose flourish throughout the area here. These colorful blooms brighten the scenery and contribute to the city’s unique character.

I fondly remember taking my then-baby daughter for leisurely walks in her stroller in the gorgeous large urban parks and quaint little pocket parks dispersed around the city. When my…
