Your battle jacket is about YOU. It’s something you made to tell the world who you are. Every element is something you chose for a reason and says something about you. Even every mistake you made is just evidence that you sat down and did something for yourself, not something to be embarrassed about. That being said, making a battle jacket or vest is time-consuming and often difficult, and it can be hard to know where to start or where to find what supplies you need. I’m compiling what limited knowledge I have in the hopes it might help others.

Thrift stores are great places to find denim jackets. You might not find something you like immediately, but keep checking. 99% of my vests came from thrift store jackets.

Look around for inspiration! Don’t set out to copy anyone, but look on places like Google images or Reddit to see what other people have done in the past.

This page is geared towards working with denim and other fabrics. Some advice is also applicable to leather, but I have less experience with that and am not about to go around telling people what to do with their $200 genine leather fits, lest I get murdered in the night for giving jacket-ruining advice.
