The current study was conducted to investigate the possible associations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and organophosphates(OPs), and unexplained RPL. This cross-sectional study included 52 cases with definite diagnosis RPL and 49 pregnant controls with normal obstetric history .Plasma levels of PCBs, OCPs and OPs were looked for using (GC/MS) technique. Plasma levels of PCB28, PCB52, PCB118 and PCB180, p, p'-DDE, dieldrin and ethion were significantly higher in women presented with unexplained RPL in comparison to their levels in the control group (P < 0.05). Moreover, the plasma levels of PCB52, PCB180, dieldrin, alachlor, heptachlor epoxide and diazinon were significantly higher (p < 0.05) in those who were exposed to environmental chemicals than those who did not report such event.. Those who repo...

The extracts were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and Liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) using positive electrospray ionization (ESI) in the multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode. This is rapid, consistent, reproducible, accurate, and sensitive for quantifying Taxol across multiple samples. The yield of crude Taxol product obtained from Potato Dextrose broth (PDB) medium inoculated with Cladosporium sphaerospermu and Metarizium anisopliae was found to be 3.732, and 0.0023 μg L respectively. The yield can be improved by adding ammonium acetate or salicylic acid to the culture broth. Addition of ammonium acetate (AA) (20 mg L) to culture media resulted in an increase of Taxol yield to 30.365 and 27.289 μg L respectively. Productio...

The presence of As(III) enhanced a cathodic peak corresponding to the catalytic hydrogen wave due to Se(IV) at about -1150 mV. Linear calibration curves for As(III) determination were obtained over the concentration ranges of 0.01-1.0 microg L(-1) and 1.0-12.0 microg L(-1) at deposition times of 30 s and 10 s, respectively. The detection limit (3sigma) was estimated to be as low as 0.7 ng L(-1) As(III) at 30 s deposition time. The optimum experimental parameters and probable interference from foreign ions and organic compounds were investigated. This proposed method could be applied to analyses of certified reference material, synthetic and natural water samples.

Part of phenacetin therapeutic activity is attributed to its metabolism into paracetamol. Paracetamol causes direct hepatic oxidative stress damage. The present study aimed to investigate the possible damaging effects of both PA and PH, when used in therapeutic doses, on rat liver and to compare the antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC), N-acetyl-methionine (NAM), and N-acetylglucosamine (NAG) against PA- or PH-induced hepatic damage. 90 male Wistar albino rats (120-140 gm) were undertaken, categorized randomly into 9 groups of 10 rats each, and administered by gavage for 2 weeks with DMSO 1% (controls), PA, PA+NAC, PA+NAM, PA+NAG, PH, PH+NAC, PH+NAM, and PH+NAG. Biochemical assays of malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), reduced glutathione (GSH), total thiols, and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) in liver homogenates and serum assays of ALT, AST, 8-hydroxy guanine (8-OH-Gua), an...

Decreased d-serine (d-Ser) levels in the periphery occur in schizophrenia and may reflect decreased availability of d-Ser to activate NMDA-R in the brain. The objective of this study was to investigate the role of d-Ser metabolism in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia via biochemical assays and correlates, the serum level of d-Ser, d-serine racemase (SR) (responsible for its formation from l-serine [l-Ser]) and d-amino acid oxidase (DAAO) (responsible for its catabolism), among different clinical types of schizophrenia patients. This cross-sectional case-control study was carried out on 100 patients and 50 controls. They were recruited from the outpatients' psychiatric unit of the Neuropsychiatric Department of Assiut University Hospital, Upper Egypt. The type of schizophrenia was determined according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV), while...

The aflatoxigenic ability of isolates related to Aspergillus section Flavi using CAM agar plates was also assessed. The results indicated that the mean moisture content was relatively low in peanut (8.05%) while it was relatively high in corn samples (10.45%). A limited number of peanut seeds but a large number of corn grains were fungi-free on both media. On AFPA, the aflatoxigenic species contaminated 9, 5 and 7 of peanut, corn and wheat samples respectively. On AFPA and DRBC, the total number of genera and species recorded on wheat were higher than those on corn and peanut and only three genera, Aspergillus, Penicillium and Fusarium were isolated from the three substrates. Aspergillus possessed more propagules on peanut than on corn and wheat, whereas Fusarium and Penicillium had more propagules on corn than on peanut and wheat. The aflat...
