Sanguine

Summary:

illustrated by vjatoch

A story about the Blight, about four treaties and a battle. A story about war—and about falling in love.

Sanguine is a loosely canonical chronicle of the events of Dragon Age: Origins featuring a canonically impossible Warden, which results in some familiar situations resolved in unfamiliar ways. It is fully pre-written and illustrated, and is being published in a serial format with weekly updates beginning in September of 2024.

Notes:

In 2017, I began a project to write down the Origins story I had knocking around in my head. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to finish the full work before beginning to post.

At the time, I thought it would take me two, maybe three years, at the most, and the whole project would encompass about 125k words. Well, it's been seven years and a lot more words than that, but, even so, I did it. I actually did it: Super Secret Fic Project is super secret no longer. Its name is, and always has been, Sanguine, it's the coolest thing I've ever done, and it's finally, finally ready to be shared.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me in this project; I really couldn't have done this without you. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I've spent the past seven years hoping you would. ♡

Chapter 1: Cover and Dedications

Chapter Text

A fire rages just beyond the door. It isn't visible, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Slowly but surely, the wood will grow hot to the touch. Smoke will seep through its cracks, over and under and through. The steady roar will grow louder, and closer. Little by little, the fire will make itself known... in small steps, at first, then leaps, then bounds. The door cannot hold it forever—one day, it will splinter.

And by the time you see the flames, it's too late to run.
