N.I.N.E.

No Instructions
No Explanations

To play N.I.N.E., you don't need instructions, in fact, you won't be given any.
N.I.N.E. doesn't require explanations, in fact, this sentence isn't explaining anything.

"Ceci n'est pas une pipe" (this is not a pipe), said a famous painting by René Magritte.
But what is N.I.N.E.?
N.I.N.E. is not what it is.

N.I.N.E. is.

This game was really weird, but I had a very good time playing it. It reminded me a lot of "Just Play Every Game", although I'd argue that this one was weirder, and the last bit actually reminded me a lot of the games in the "Cube Escape" series by Rusty Lake, which is definitely one of my favourite series of all time! I really did enjoy this game, and I would love to play more games like it.

Yes, this is a game that shares a lot with JPEG. The only difference is that here the narrative is more tied to the experience itself, whereas in JPEG there's a solid story to brings all the events together. Nice you noticed! 👍 And thanks for playing it!

Thanks for making it :)

This is perfect. I was frustrated in two parts, but the solution made me laugh. It is a true test in thinking outside the box. Well done. I would like to make a short stream of this. It deserves so much recognition. Well done.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! 👍

Feel free to stream it, it'll surely help to increase its (low) popularity.

Thanks again! 👋😊

Do you plan on doing anything similar but significantly longer in the future? I could sit for an entire summer on this variety of game.

(+1)

Yes, something along these lines was planned since after N.i.n.e.'s release. I really enjoy doing this kind of games, but, apparently, those liked most are the shorter and less obscure ones.

Now, after over 40 releases, I'm currently taking a break from development to follow other non-gaming related projects, but I'll make sure that my next game will be a worthy sequel to N.i.n.e. 😉

I will be sure to play your other games. If I can get my rural technology together, I would be honored to stream it. Thanks again! You are fantastic.

Hello there! (Totally not an Obi Wan Kenobi meme XD)

I recently played this game in a video of mine.... but.... not as a standalone video. (As in I put this game in a video as well as several other games too)

What I am saying is... I have a video that involves me playing this game but also playing other games that may seem like game advertisement but it really isn't trying to.

Here it is! Quite an "obscure" title, isn't it? XDDDDD (i'll stop...)

Hi, thank you! 😊
I'm glad you played "N.I.N.E" and "The Hair In the Wall". 😉
Thanks for sharing the video!👍

(+2)

No problem, ma dood! It was about time I played some of them!

I don't know what I just played. I really don't. But I loved it!

Thank you! 😉

Thank you! 😊
Yeah, this game had a more a direct-to-brain creative development than any other game previously released.
So glad you enjoyed it! 😉
And thanks for the video! 👍

This game was so weird. I have so many questions, yet so many I don't want answers too... I loved it

Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😉
And thanks for the video too! 👍

I personally love puzzle games, but this was soooo weird!! lol It took me about 40 minutes to beat it 'cause a couple of them stumped me for a bit. But all in all the crazy, creative and incredibly dark imagery was insanely good!!

10/10 will make a friend play so I can watch them solve the puzzles and freak out. xD

I made a video for this gem, and the reactions speak for themselves.

Thanks for the video! 👍
Glad you liked N.I.N.E.'s weirdness... 😄
I'm gonna check it out immediately! 😉

Played through this and loved it.

Thought it was just going to be obscure puzzles but then stuff got weird. I should have seen it coming :D

I actually played it with my SO and they really enjoyed it, too. They usually play action platformers so it was fun seeing 'em tackle puzzles.

Cheers, good sir! 🍻

Thanks! 👍
N.I.N.E. was a nice artistic way to experiment how non-spoken narration can get through unsettling scenes and puzzles.
It's all a delicate matter of subconscious perception... like direct to brain sensations, which words can't quite explain. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, I'm glad that you and your SO enjoyed it, especially if it wasn't their usual gaming genre. 😉

Finished it. I did better at this game with NO instructions and NO explanations (and oh my god the imagery was beautifully disturbing). I need to try all your other surreal games completely blind, to sod the instructions, I'll get a lot farther! But that was very very lovely. I'm sure there's still stuff that I missed so I may replay it later.

By the way, are you the Unknown Developer?

You two have... things in common...

Thank you!
And, well, I'm just Andrea Pignataro. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I got featured a few times on pcgamer, warpdoor, freegameplanet and other gaming related sites...

Thanks again and bye! 👋

Hey! I played your game on my channel and had a lot of fun! I'd love some pointers on how to get through the puzzle I couldn't solve, but I'me pretty sure you would just say "NINE" and walk away. Am I right?

Thank you for the video!
And why shouldn't I help you?
The bee goes in the middle of the face (just drag it on the nose, and let it go).
There's a lot more after that. 😉

Then I will revisit it tomorrow!
