Haruhiko Sugimura, MD, PhD

Prof. Sugimura obtained his MD at the University of Tokyo in 1982, and his Ph.D. in Pathology at the University of Tokyo in 1986. He spent as a postdoctoral fellow in NCI, NIH, USA (1987-1990). For 32 years (1991-2023), he served as an associate professor (1991-1995) and professor and chairman (1995-2023) of the Department of Tumor Pathology, Hamamatsu University and he also served as a vice president and director of the library of Hamamatsu University School of Medicine (2020-2022). After he reached regiment age he currently holds the position of Director, at Sasaki Institute Sasaki Foundation, 2-2 KandaSurugadai, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, and Professor Emeritus Hamamatsu University School of Medicine. He received a Japanese Pathology Society Award in 2015.

Prof. Sugimura has published more than 200 publications in international peer-review journals. Prof. Sugimura has provided professional services to more than 10 journals and professional organizations. His current focus of research is a pursuit of the etiology of early-onset gastric cancer and adductomics, the comprehensive elucidation of DNA modifications by both endogenous and exogeneous mutagens, both of which are very challenging.
