Google Photos for Android adds ‘Undo device backup’

As previously announced in December, Google Photos now lets you “Undo device backup” on Android.

This setting will “remove all of the photos and videos that are currently found on your device in Google Photos.” “Undo backup for this device” was first introduced on iOS and is now available in Google Photos 7.18 for Android:

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app.
  2. At the top, tap your Profile picture or Initial and then Photos settings and then Backup.
  3. To view the off-screen items below, scroll.
  4. Tap Undo backup for this device.
  5. Next to “I understand my photos and videos from this device will be deleted from Google Photos,” check the box.
  6. Tap Delete Google Photos backup.

Those photos and videos will remain on your phone or tablet, but are removed from cloud albums, shared albums, search results, memories, and your Locked Folder.

Afterwards, Google Photos backup will be disabled. This option is for when you “might not want all of your photos on your device backed up anymore.”
