
Google Messages has addressed slowdowns, failures, and other issues with receiving media in Android’s RCS app.
In the past few months, some Google Messages users have had RCS issues with incoming images being blurry for a few minutes until it fully loads. During this time, the photo is not really viewable. In other cases, images are pixelated, while videos are not very high-res.
Google today acknowledged the “frustrating issues receiving media in Messages, especially slowdowns and failures.”
We understand how disruptive this can be, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.
To address this, the Google Messages team “recently rolled out updates aimed at significantly improving media receiving performance.” Google hopes “you’ll see a noticeable difference now.” This should be backend server changes, with Google today not talking about the “Original quality” sending option that has been tested over the last few months. Hopefully, with the fixes in place, that is now coming soon.
For those still having issues, Google wants them to submit feedback. The full note is below:
