PANAMA - Nov 1/24 - SNS -- International field pea markets finished the week on a slightly easier note as the window for making additional sales to India narrows and competition for available demand increases.
At the moment, India's window for duty free imports of yellow peas will close for cargo shipped with an on board bill of lading dated no later than December 31.
The has been some background speculation India will extend the window or include green peas. But indications that country's farmers are showing good initial interest in planting more pulses and other rabi season crops raise the political cost of expanding the current policy.
PANAMA - Nov 1/24 - SNS -- Global lentil markets finished the week's trading on an easier note, reflecting a moderate slowing in export movement and the pending Australian harvest.
Though Australia mainly grows red lentils, lower average prices are having an impact on the perceived values of greens, especially to the extent consumers see the price difference in local markets.
This has generated hopes the December 3 production estimates from ABARES will see a solid reduction in this year's harvest estimate.
