This Way Up: seismic stories
For This Way Up's last shows, presenter Simon Morton and longtime producer Richard Scott have trawled through the archives of 600 shows recorded over the past (nearly) 13 years.
This week, they mark the major seismic events that occurred during their time on the airwaves; the Christchurch and Kaikoura earthquakes.
In 'Broken River', days after Christchurch was devastated by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in 2011, Simon Morton traversed the city by bike using the Avon River as his route. Travelling from the source of the Avon in the west to Heathcote Estuary in the east (where the Avon meets the Pacific), Simon found a landscape transformed and everyone with a story to tell.
In 'Broken River Revisited', Simon returns to the Avon River one year on to see how life is progressing along it and in it.
And in 'Along A Fractured Highway' Simon got back on his mountain bike to pedal along State Highway 1 north of Kaikoura to see how locals and visitors in some badly affected areas were coping with the aftermath of the 14 November 2016 quake centred near Hanmer Springs.
Please note from Saturday 14 July This Way Up will be replaced by The Podcast Hour, a new show produced and presented by Richard Scott that highlights the best in audio storytelling from New Zealand and around the world.
