"barrage section too narrow for growing numbers" (about: 2006)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 Enjoyable run - the second time for me. The barrage section is getting too narrow for the growing number of runners; bumping and slow mile times are the result.

"FANTASTIC" (about: 2006)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Well worth every penny. It was great running through the delightful city and countryside. I was so amazed when I ran through the park. I ended up meeting five colleagues who cheered me on and ran next to me. I finished in four hours and 33 minutes. Can I beat that next year?

"Spectators were fantastic, great day out" (about: 2006)
2 previous marathons
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 This was my first half marathon and the experience overall in Cardiff was absolutely fantastic, the spectators all round the course were always behind you giving encouragement, the course overall was satisfactory but did have some down falls. The run up the barrage in the bay was extremely hard due to the fact that the course was very narrow to run along with the amount of other competitors which then slowed the pace down, the same problem again when in the park area. The water stations and all co ordinators around the course were very helpful in every way. The entry into the Millenium Stadium with the atmosphere and the fans cheering did make up for the loss of time that I had encured in the half marathon overall. I will be returning to compete again next year as the atmosphere within the runners and the spectators was fantastic.

"not bad, but some improvement needed" (about: 2006)
3 previous marathons
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 2 The course was OK, if lacking in spectator support for a lot of the time (especially around the barrage area and in the park). The arrangements at the end were not good. Still, I enjoyed most of it - apart from the last two miles!!

"I will be back" (about: 2006)
4-5 previous marathons
| 4-5 Cardiff Marathons
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 4 Nice day to run in Cardiff again (4th time). Shame about the bottleneck at the start, and I felt the top runners were hindered by having to avoid the slower runners at the Barrage (water side on the loop's first lap). Slow runners were hogging the pavement so they had to weave in and out. It would be a travesty if their PBs were at stake after all the hard training. I also agree the parks are the worst bit; they seem to go on forever. The crowds were the best so far, and a big "thank you" to all, especially the McMillan boys. All in all, a good job. Happy running and se you next year :)

"Good event but still evolving" (about: 2006)
2 previous marathons
| 1 Cardiff Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 The course, by being flat, attracted a lot more runners, which was great. However, as a Cardiff boy, I would question whether the route really does the city justice - for example, what about running completely around the bay? Are a few deserted dock warehouses really the best feature of the magnificant bay? The organization was good and there were more spectators than I can remember; however, the finish was a bit chaotic as there always seemed to be too many exhausted runners filling too small a space. All this said, it was still a good day and I will be back next year.

"excellent experience as my first half-marathon" (about: 2006)
1 previous marathon
| 1 Cardiff Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 Excellent experience on my first-ever marathon for a charity named "Tenovus" - organized by my local workplace. The run was hard at times - especially around the parks, they were never-ending. Support was brilliant and running around Millenium Stadium before the finish was outstanding. But I was disappointed in the lack of information about getting your medals, and no member of staff really knew how you get your race results, so it would be good to have a bit more organization with regard to letting people (especially new runners) find out how to get their race results. Apart from that, is was outstanding.

"Good course, shame about the finish" (about: 2006)
1 previous marathon
| 1 Cardiff Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 The street routes were excellent but the park routes at the end were a little annoying us you didn't really feel as if you were getting anywhere. The only bit that really annoyed me was the finish: you ran through the tunnel into the stadium which was awesome but then you passed the line and had to wait for everyone to disperse up 1-2 staircases, which took for ever. Also I put my bag over in the corner of the stadium so had to climb all over the chairs as the gates were shut. But this was my first half marathon and thought it was good fun!!!

"Potential to be much better..." (about: 2006)
2 previous marathons
| 1 Cardiff Marathon
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 4 Badly congested start due to a lack of pace markers, combined half and full marathon start, and narrow course in Cardiff Bay. In places, this was not only frustrating, but dangerous. Poor mile-marker visibility and notice of upcoming drinks stations. Disappointing goody bay and lack of available T-shirts at the end of the race. Note the full marathon time-limit of five hours and a lack of coordination, focus and understanding of the needs of slow marathon runners during the second lap. Overall, this is an event that is geared more toward the half-marathon runner and is not recommended for the first-time marathon runner. |
