About this journal

The Journal of Conservation and Museum Studies is fully peer reviewed and Open Access. It contains research on conservation science, artefact studies, restoration, museum studies, environment studies, collection management and curation. Published from the UCL Institute of Archaeology from 1996 to 2002, the journal was relaunched in 2011 in collaboration with the British Library, with a newly constituted international editorial board.

  • Call for Section Editors

    The Journal of Conservation and Museum Studies is recruiting new additions to its editorial team.

    The Journal of Conservation and Museum Studies is a fully peer reviewed and open access journal, with an overall focus on the care and exhibition of collection items. The scope thus includes conservation science, artefact studies, restoration, museum studies, environment studies, collection management and curation. We are currently accepting applicants for Section Editors.

    • The Section Editors will assist the Editors in Chief in the running of the journal by handling the peer review process for a select number of papers a year. This role would be particularly suitable for an early career researcher seeking editorial experience.
    • The Section Editors will also provide general assistance and support to the Editors in Chief throughout the article production and peer review processes.

    All members of the editorial team are also encouraged to proactively network and promote the journal, think creatively about new ways of attracting interest, and solicit content from colleagues where appropriate. Undertaking a role with the journal will enable you to build your own network, to contribute to the dissemination of high-quality research, and gain wider recognition in the field. Regrettably, we are not able to offer financial compensation.   • Call for Copyeditors

    The Journal of Conservation and Museum Studies currently has a number of copyediting vacancies.

    These are voluntary positions. The successful candidates will gain experience related to the publishing process of a peer-reviewed, open access journal, as well as access to some of the most recent research on topical issues in the fields of conservation science, artefact studies, restoration, museum studies, environment studies, collection management and curation. All copy editors will be publicly acknowledged as members of the editorial team.

    Key skills:

    • Highly developed use of the English language
    • Strong command of grammar and spelling
    • Great eye for detail
    • Competent in the use of MS Word
