PhilSA, ISPRS host international symposium on geospatial technologies

The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA), in collaboration with the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), hosted the ISPRS Technical Commission V (TC V) on Education and Outreach Midterm Symposium from 6 to 8 August 2024 in the Philippines for the first time.  

With the theme “Insight to Foresight via Geospatial Technologies,” the midterm symposium held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City brought together experts from local and international agencies, government bodies, and students to exchange information, knowledge, and best practices on geospatial technologies.

Travel Grants by the ISPRS Foundation for GSW 2025, 6 -11 April 2025

The ISPRS Foundation (TIF) will be offering travel grants to deserving applicants, especially from developing countries, to participate in the Geospatial Week (Dubai GSW’2025), April 2025, Dubai, UAE.

Please note that TIF has limited amount of travel grant funds to support limited number of applicants and that the grants may not cover all the financial expenditures needed for the travel, food and stay. Applicants are therefore expected to mobilise additional funds from other funding sources to support their participation.

ISPRS Scientific Initiatives 2025

In accordance with the statutory mission and activities of ISPRS, the Society shall provide funds to support scientific and other initiatives, which will further improve its international status in the field of the photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences, and will therefore benefit all ISPRS members. For 2025, ISPRS Council is making up to 70,000 Swiss francs (CHF) available to support new scientific initiatives. The maximum funding assigned to any one scientific project shall be CHF 10,000 per annum. Projects should commence on January 1, 2025 and typically last up to 12 months. In exceptional cases, applications for projects lasting up to 24 months will be considered. Projects of greater than one-year duration will be subject to annual review before subsequent funding will be released.

Obituary for Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. mult. Gottfried Konecny

Prof. Gottfried Konecny, former head of the Institute of Photogrammetry and GeoInformation of Leibniz University Hannover, passed away peacefully on Thursday, 25 July 2024, at the age of 94. With his passing, photogrammetry and remote sensing has lost a brilliant scientist and science manager who was highly respected around the globe and tirelessly active, far beyond his retirement.

Prof. Li Deren, Honorary Member of ISPRS, receiving China’s top sci-tech award for the year 2023 on June 24, 2024

Prof. Li Deren, ISPRS Honorary Member, photogrammetry and remote sensing expert, an academician at both the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) from Wuhan University, won the national top sci-tech award for the year 2023 at a meeting conflating the national sci-tech conference, the national science and technology award conference, and the general assemblies of the members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) held on June 24, 2024.

The U. V. Helava Award – Best Paper 2023 announced

Congratulations go to Toshiyuki Kobayashi, Hideki Kobayashi, Wei Yang, Hiroshi Murakami, Yoshiaki Honda and Kenlo Nishida Nasaharaa for their paper The development of a global LAI and FAPAR product using GCOM-C/SGLI data which was chosen as the 2023 Best Paper for the new evaluation period.
