Gavin Bate

Mountaineer and adventurer. Gavin Bate has spent his life travelling the world and climbing big mountains. His first expedition was to walk across the Sahara Desert alone, which took six months. During eleven years of wandering he worked as ship scrapper, an aid driver, expedition guide and made a precarious living writing articles and travel photos.
Gavin started the travel company Adventure Alternative and the charity Moving Mountains during all these experiences, intent to use the company for good purpose and the charity to help people develop themselves in the long term. Twenty five years later many of those people still work for either the company or the charity.
As a mountain climber Gavin moved into high altitude guiding and has made six expeditions to climb Mount Everest, three times without bottled oxygen and twice alone. He has organised and led many mountain expeditions to the Himalayas, and has also led polar, jungle and desert expeditions. He has always used his bigger trips to raise money for Moving Mountains.
Gavin now works as a speaker and leadership consultant, and as a mountain leader he still manages Adventure Alternative. He lives in London with his family and still travels.
