After five years of on-site research, Howard Gardner and Wendy Fischman published the results of their national study on higher education in The Real World of College. They now seek to help institutions bring ethics and character to the center of the college experience in a project with a recent focus on mission-driven institutions.
Howard also leads The Good Starts Project, a qualitative research study that explores how young children learn to think beyond themselves. Using qualitative research methods this project will pursue two main research questions: how children aged four to seven conceptualize "I," "we," and "they;" and what major stakeholders, including educators, administrators, policymakers, parents and guardians, believe to be the purpose of early childhood education.
Founded by psychologists Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, William Damon, and Howard Gardner in 1996, The Good Project has two decades of experience carrying out qualitative research and developing practical materials with an emphasis on topics including the meaning of good work, effective collaboration, digital citizenship, and civic participation.
Presently, through research-based concepts, frameworks, and resources, The Good Project strives to equip individuals to reflect upon the ethical dilemmas that arise in everyday life by providing them with the tools to make thoughtful decisions.
“Doing things a new way is easy; we call this novelty. More challenging is a new way that gets accepted by others; we call this creativity. Even more challenging is a new way that is ethical and advances the human condition; we call this ‘good work.’”
- Howard Gardner
